Painting the House

Poor Casey. Sometimes I wonder if he really knew what he was getting into when he married me. He was content to live with the ugly red wall and interior paint in our home until the kids would be old enough to stay out of our way. I, on the other hand, have been dying to take on the project of redoing the interior of the house as soon as possible. I practically dragged the poor man to the hardware store to buy paint and tools and then proceeded to turn his nice and comfortable home into a chaotic mess. The good news, however, is that Casey hasn't left me yet AND we no longer have an ugly mottled red/black wall in our home or pink/olive/beige on any of the walls in the living room, kitchen, or upstairs hallway. The bad news is that I still want to paint the family room, bathrooms, all bedrooms and the laundry room.

I was so anxious to get rid of that UGLY red wall that I forgot to take a before/after picture. I don't care though. That wall has been in too many family photos already! Here it is a nice gray-blue!

Emmett was my very busy helper. I finally gave him a craft paintbrush and a little cup of water and assigned him a wall to paint. This kept him happily occupied for about 10 minutes.

Having the house torn apart all around you and being told constantly what to touch and not touch is pretty draining for a busy little guy. Thank goodness he still takes naps!

Bethany tried her best to be a helper also. I'm pretty grateful that we have a chance to paint before she is crawling!

In spite of my past rock climbing experience, I really don't like ladders. There's no harness, and I feel like I will fall at any moment. Casey was a hero and came to my rescue taking care of all the high areas for me. Love him.

And this is what our kitchen looked like. We couldn't eat for days. It was horrible.

And our family room. There was no safe place for the kids to play. Thankfully I had some good friends help me out by taking them for me a few afternoons so they could play and I could work. I am so grateful for help!!

And this is what our living room now looks like. We love it. Everything has a much cleaner and brighter appearance and it suits our personality infinitely better. We are done with the kitchen and hallways upstairs, but still have miles to go before we are done. Even so, I'm pretty sure that the worst is over. Whew! What a project!
