I've been a terrible blogger lately, but I have a good excuse: I've been busy. Okay, that was lame... but it's also true.
Anyway, here's the update on our little Emmett boy.
WEIGHT & SLEEP HABITS
At 18 months old, he still weighs only about 22 lbs. He grows sweeter by the day though. Lately he has started to go to bed more easily (it's about 50/50 between when he goes down quietly and when he cries). Sometimes if we hand him a book to flip through as he lays down for the night he gets distracted and forgets to be upset when we leave the room.He goes to bed at 7:30 and takes a nap from 11:30-2 or 3pm. When church changes to 11am -2pm in a few weeks, we expect a lot of crying and fussiness not just from Emmett but from Mom and Dad too. Everyone will be miserable if Emmett is miserable.
VOCABULARY
His vocabulary has expanded so much that we can hardly keep up with it... it seems like he learns a new word every day. These are the ones that stand out in my mind:
Ow-sigh (outside)
Chi-chin (chicken)
Moo!
Neigh!
Baa!
Get Dow! (Get down!)
Darway (Darwin- the cat)
Vroom!
Beep!
Pweese (please)
Tan Tae (thank you)
Die-pa (diaper- and he points to it sometimes when it's dirty)
Poo poo
Eeee-sa (Lisa-- yes, he calls me by my first name. No, I do not like it.)
Oh no!
Oh my!
Cheese! (for the camera)
Ta-da! (and he throws his arms over his head as he shouts this-- adorable!)
Belly-belly babajewba... (his attempt at belly button)
Eye (and points at his eye...or yours... or the cats...etc)
Soff (soft)
Shoo (shoe)
Saw (sock)
Yellow (everything is yellow to him. There is no other color)
MUAH! (big, awkwardly long, wet kisses for Mommy, Daddy, and Darwin if he can't get away fast enough)
ACTIVITIES
Emmett loves to climb! He will climb anything he sees and it terrifies us and gives me nightmares. Really. Emmett is experimenting with his sense of balance and loves to shake his head until he gets dizzy and falls down. Dancing is another favorite pastime. He has left the whole body shaking style to go with a more sophisticated bobbing up and down from the knees with his arms spread out like an airplane and his body tilted forward. Every new toy he has must pass the "bounce" test on the kitchen floor-- we've broken a few good toys this way as well as a couple of ornaments off the tree. He loves to throw balls and watch them bounce on the hard floor and is fascinated by how different toys react when they collide with the tile. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, goes "vroom" and "beep beep!". He loves to ride his little plastic rocking horse and shout, "Neigh!" and "Whoa!" He also likes to try to stand up on his rocking horse and balance with no hands. This is also frightening, but at least the horse is low to the ground and so it doesn't scare us quite as much. Emmett LOVES to play with his kitty, Darwin. He will run around the house with the cat's string calling, "Darway! Darway!" and then shriek with delight when the cat engages in play and goes chasing after him and the string. It's hilarious. And last of all is getting chased by Mom and Dad. Emmett sometimes gets so excited from the suspense of getting caught that he'll change direction and run right into us and turn so we can tickle him. He is our beautiful, sweet, silly, boy. We are so blessed to have him in our lives.
