Well, we've been on three different geocache hunts since our first one at Bear Lake and we are loving it! It has led us to discover three new canyons that we didn't even know existed. All three of them have been beautiful with some fantastic scenery. We've enjoyed having such a fun (and cheap!) family activity. It's also helping me get back in shape-- even though Casey is the one carrying Emmett, somehow I'm always lagging 20 feet behind them, panting and out of breath!
1. "Triangle by the Trail" N 40° 40.115 W 111° 46.182.
This was our first "family" geocache with Emmett. We had a great time getting up there and Emmett loved it. The day was a bit gray and it drizzled rain on and off throughout the hike. We had to cross a pretty little creek and hike quite a ways up the mountain before we found it. By the time we got home it was dark and poor Emmett had fallen asleep on his daddy's back.

A beautiful sunset as we headed back to the car.
I got dog poop on my bum. I think it was on my shoe and I then sat on my heels while changing Emmett's diaper. Eww.
Poor Emmett was pretty exhausted! We were out a little too late for him.
2. Mouth of Fergie (short for Ferguson Canyon)N 40° 36.673 W 111° 47.224
This cache was pretty easy and we found it at the beginning of our hike. We went looking for another cache that took us much further into the mountains, but by the time we got close to it, the sun was setting and Emmett was getting tired. We decided to turn back without finding the second cache. Still, it was a great hike!
Emmett LOVES riding in his backpack!
Playing in another stream-- Emmett loves the mud and splashing in the cold water!
3. Neko's Rocky Rest N 40° 38.395 W 111° 47.115 and
4. The Crossin' Cache N 40° 38.597 W 111° 46.914
We found both of these caches in Hughes Canyon. This was our favorite hiking spot by far. Even though it's a holiday today, it is not very well known and we only passed one other couple on our way back down the trail. The bugs were bad, but we had repellent and they mostly left us alone. We plan on going back for the another cache or two that are hidden even further up the trail, but we had a good time finding these first two.
Emmett enjoyed throwing dirt around while Daddy found the cache and updated the log.

The bouncing movement of going downhill seems to put Emmett right to sleep. Of course, it was also time for his nap. :)
Isn't he a sweet boy? This is a face that just cries out for kisses, doesn't it?
