This week we celebrated Emmett's 1st birthday. I can't believe how quickly time has gone by or how big our little baby has gotten! We had a wonderful celebration at the park yesterday with Deb and Neal, Donovan and Olya, and Amy Hernandez (Emmett's babysitter) and her two children. Later that night, Emmett got lots of new toys to play with too! Here are a few pictures:
This was my first attempt at creating a "cute" puppy dog cake. It didn't turn out as cute looking as the picture in the recipe book, but at least people could tell what it was supposed to be!
Emmett seemed to like it. He'd never had sugar before and this was some pretty amazing stuff! Here he is giving us his approving "thumbs up".
A very messy, very happy little boy.
All that cake made him quite thirsty, so we washed it down with a bit of juice. Even though he doesn't really need it, Mommy still insists on holding her boy sometimes.
Grant was very excited about eating graham crackers. It's a good thing no one told him what he was missing! Don't worry though... his turn will be here in just a couple more months!
Emmett and his Amy.
Sharing the cake with cousins and friends.
Emmett had such a good time, but it was pretty tiring to have so much fun all at once. He fell asleep in the car before we had even gotten out of the parking lot!
After a nice long nap, he got straight to business playing with his new toys. He got a great set of instruments from the Snows that not only make lots of cool noises, but taste quite good as well.
Mommy and Daddy got him a little activity table. It's very loud and noisy, but it usually keeps Emmett entertained long enough to do a few dishes or straighten up a little around the house. The noise is worth it!
Grandma and Grandpa Gasser got Emmett a monkey trap. This is how it works:
The monkey sees lots of cool shapes inside the bucket, so he puts his hand inside to grab one.
With his fist tightly clenched around a shape, his hand is too big to take it back out of the bucket. All the monkey has to do is let go of the shape and then he can get his hand out. Does the monkey do this? Of course not. He wants the object he's holding onto even more than his freedom.
Fortunately, Emmett is a monkey in name only and can figure some of these things out for himself.
He also has a mommy and daddy who, after having a good laugh, will always help him meet his goal.
We had a wonderful day! And as Casey and I look back on this last year, we just keep thinking about how blessed and fortunate we are to have such a sweet little boy in our family! We love you Emmett!

Happy Birthday Emmett! Sorry we couldn't make it to the party. It looks like it was fun!
Happy Birthday to a sweet little grandson! Thanks for posting the pictures!
I can't believe he's 1!
We are very offended that Emmett did not invite us to his party.
Actually, Emmett DID invite you, but Carolyn said that none of you wanted to go. She must not have told you about the invitation. She can be very strange like that. I'm sure it had nothing to do with living in South Korea or anything. I don't know why she hates us so much.
