So this is me in one of my "pre-pregnancy" shirts. I feel incredibly fat while wearing my old shirts because they are getting quite snug. My old shirts invite comments like these:
"Wow Mrs. Sledge... your stomach is HUGE."
"Well you're sure looking pregnant!"
"So how much longer do you have?!"
However if I wear maternity shirts, people comment about how I'm too little to wear maternity clothes and say they can hardly tell I'm pregnant. That makes me feel like I'm one of those inexperienced first time mothers that all the other mothers smile knowingly at because I'm obviously just wearing maternity clothes out of excitement and not necessity.
So I compromise by wearing an old shirt one day and then a maternity shirt the next day. I don't think it's going to work much longer though... I feel like I stick out another inch with each week that passes and there's no way some of my shirts will continue to fit over my belly.
Why can't I just go to work in sweats and one of Casey's t-shirts??

Shoot. That was my suggestion.
Well, I think you're cute.
Looking good, Lisa!
I get those comments about not looking pregnant enough too. I've decided they are trying to make some kind of back-handed compliment that often feels like criticism. The weirdest is when people are actually annoyed at how small you are. It's not like you really control how your body carries the baby!
A friend of mine called this her "fat clothes" stage because she bought clothes at the thrift store that weren't so "maternity" looking but were a little larger than her usual clothes.
But in the end, don't worry about doing it wrong. Wear whatever works, I say.
I bought large normal shirts to wear while I was in the awkward stage. I figure I'll have to wear them after the pregnancy when I'm losing all the baby weight.
Hmm.. I never get comments like that when I'm preggo. I must always look big enough! LOL. I say wear the maternity clothes! You only get to do it for a little while (compared to the rest of your life) and they are so cute and comfy! You will miss them after you can't wear them anymore. So go for it and thumb you nose at those sillies! Besides, it's one of the few upsides to being pregnant! ;)
