The other night, while we were snuggling in our bed waiting to fall asleep, Casey and I started to list some of our favorite moments of 2009. Here are a few of them, in no particular order:
1. The morning we found out that we were pregnant.
2. Listening together for the first time to the sound of our baby's heart beat.
3. Enjoying movie nights together laying in piles of blankets on the floor, in front of our computer monitor.
4. Staying up late reading books together.
5. Hiking in the summer time-- especially our adventure coming out of the wrong canyon in a thunder/lightening storm.
6. Gradually sharing our news with family and friends.
7. Miraculously obtaining so many free items to furnish our little home with-- we still can't get over how we stumbled across our dining chairs.
8. Cooking together and exploring new recipes.
9. Snuggling in front of our little fireplace during the three days our heater wasn't working.
10. Playing skip-bo in bed until late at night.
I think the list could go on a lot longer, but I won't bore you. When we had listed all our favorite things we asked each other what we thought had been the hardest thing about the year. To my surprise, we couldn't agree. It took me a while longer to realize that the things we each felt like were the hardest moments were the ones that we assumed were the hardest for the other person. And that made me think that even on those dirty rotten, no good, pull your hair out, stinky, lousy days... something was going right after all.
So good bye 2009! Thanks for the good times and I guess for some of those not so good ones too. Here's looking forward to 2010-- we can't wait to see what the new year will bring!
