We had the most beautiful tree in our backyard when we bought the house. It was a huge honey-locust (sp?) tree and was probably the largest tree in the neighborhood. Not only was it pretty to look at, but it also helped obscure the view of our backyard neighbors neglected and garbage strewn yard. We loved it.
Unfortunately, our big beautiful tree developed a crack in its trunk that ran all the way to the ground. One day when the weather had warmed up, Casey was outside playing with the kids and noticed that the trunk had actually started to split open. Too nervous to wait, we called a tree removal service and had the tree taken down within four days.

And there's the lucky son of a gun who gets our tax return. I will say that he had to work hard for it, however, since taking our tree down and then removing the stump ended up being a two day job. |

Bethany, Dax (our little primary buddy who came to play that day), and Emmett were all mezmerized by the work going on in our backyard. Bethany and Dax got tired of it quickly and moved on to other things, but Emmett stayed by the window from start to finish, screeching with delight the entire time. We spent the next three days shielding ourselves from Emmett's spit-filled imitations of what the chainsaw sounded like. :) |

It was a VERY good thing we didn't wait to take the tree down. As you can see in this photo, once the cut was made at the bottom of the tree, the entire left half came loose and fell apart! |

I tried to get a photo of the kids standing on the stump, but Bethany decided she definitely didn't like standing on top of it. |

The following day the tree guys came back and took out the big tree's stump as well as three other stumps we needed removed from the side and front of the house. Again, the kids loved watching everything they did. |

We now have a LOT of mulch. We've been putting a fair amount of it in the garden but I honestly don't think our garden is big enough to handle it all! The kids have been very helpful using their own little garden tools to shovel mulch into the wheelbarrow for us. |
