Emmett Goes to Preschool!

Emmett started preschool on August 26th. He was actually supposed to begin the week before, but caught the flu and spent two days throwing up with a fever of 102. It was so sad! He was very upset when I left to meet his teacher without him, but we tried to make it better by decorating his new back pack.

As you can see from his backpack, Emmett is going to the Bravo Arts Academy. It's a bit of a drive, but so far I really do like it. Class size is limited to 9 students, it's 2 hours and 15 minutes on Mondays and Wednesdays, and his teacher is named Mrs. Brinkerhoff.

The following Monday morning, Emmett came running into my room to wake me up shouting, "Today is my first day of preschool!" We hurried and got ready and were even early enough that we had time to take a "first day of preschool" photo.

Isn't he just adorable?? He was so excited! In this photo he is exclaiming, "PRESCHOOL!" instead of "cheese". I can't believe how big he's getting!
When I dropped him off, he was so brave! He clung to my legs for only a second and then walked right in and sat down like it was no big deal. I cried when I got to the car. It's not like I haven't left him for more than two hours before, but somehow this was much harder. I was leaving him in a classroom with strangers. I felt so hollow driving off without him.

Bethany and I decided to go to the park to chase away our blues. We had a great time just the two of us, and I think that this will provide a welcome break for Bethany where she can be free of her overly attentive brother and get some one-on-one time with her mom for a couple of hours now and then! I know that's one thing that I'm looking forward too at least!

Now that Emmett has been going for a couple of weeks, he continues to love his class. He's learning fun new songs and having fun making new friends. Mrs. Brinkerhoff was very sweet last week and told me that she is amazed by how good Emmett is at following directions, how nice he is to the other students, and how hard he works. I've got such a sweet boy that I never doubted he'd be perfect for her. He's having a great time and we're proud of our big kid!
