An Afternoon Tradition

Each day the kids take their naps at about the same time. Lucky me, huh? When Bethany wakes up I usually decide that it's time for Emmett to get up as well. He'd sleep for four hours or more if I let him! Once everyone is changed, had a drink, gone potty, etc we go into the living room and Emmett reads books to Bethany. I didn't deliberately start the tradition, it just happened all by itself. We'll come down the stairs and Emmett will ask, "Bethany, do you want your big brother to read to you?" And of course Bethany will respond, "Yeah" because that's what she says in answer to every question. And then Emmett says, "Okay! I'll go get a book!" And before you know it the two of them are sitting down together with Bethany pointing to each photo and asking, "Whats-at?" and Emmett providing the answers. These are from today's reading session:

It usually starts with the two of them reading one book and then we get a second one out when the screaming starts. Bethany likes to turn pages too quickly for Emmett and the battles just aren't worth it. So they read two different books and Emmett takes turns pointing out things in each book.

Eventually, Bethany lost her balance and fell over....

So this is how they ended up reading instead.

As it turns out, this is quite a comfortable way to read.
And of course, Emmett decided he had to kiss his sister. Too bad I missed it.
They were having a great time until Emmett decided to poke Bethany in the eye.
I moved them to opposite ends of the couch and Bethany's hysterics were appeased by the change.

She was very content to read her book by herself for a while.

Then Emmett decided that it was time for Bethany to have another book. She was more than okay with this.

I'd say this baby girl knows how to kick back and relax with a good book.
