A Trip to the Zoo

The weather was a beautiful 50 degrees today and we decided to take advantage of it and go to the zoo! Emmett was so excited. The first thing he did this morning was come running into my room at 6am and say, "Mommy! We're going to the zoo today!" Our friends, the Paulsens, came with us and we had a fantastic time together.

A family of monkeys (or gorillas...)

Sweet baby girl with her daddy. She didn't pay much attention to the animals, but she loved being out in the fresh air and sunlight.

Emmett was so excited he could hardly hold still.

Trevor and Caryn's little girl, Aria, is just two months older than Bethany. What a cutie!

We got really excited about seeing the otters and sea lions!

Emmett tried very hard to hold still long enough for this photo with Aria.

After months of being trapped indoors it was great to go somewhere that Emmett could run and work out some real energy.

Each time we came to a new animal, Emmett would ask me if it was nice or mean. When we came to the tiger, he asked me the inevitable question. I responded, "Oh that tiger is mean! If he saw you he'd say, 'YUM! I'd like to eat that boy for my supper!'" I wish I could retract that comment because a few minutes later the tiger locked his gaze on Emmett and ran at the fence! He really did look at Emmett like he was a meal and it was startling and intimidating even for me! Emmett screamed and started to cry hysterically, insisting that he wanted to go home. Once we got him away from the tiger pen he calmed down and started to have fun again. But if you ask him, he'll tell you all about the scary tiger that wanted to eat him for supper.

The evolution of man. I guess we haven't come as far as we thought. ;)

Eating out at Red Robin afterwards and letting the two little girls play and get acquainted. Someday they're going to be great friends!

We had a wonderful time! It gave us quite a healthy dose of spring fever though, so hopefully this warmer weather is here to stay and we can finally say good bye to the cold and the snow!
