My First Completed Quilt

I finally did it: I started a quilt and actually finished it! On Christmas night we moved Emmett from the crib to a BIG BOY BED and I had an ambition to make him a quilt and have it done by Christmas. Thanks to my wonderful mother-in-law, Reba, for giving me her old sewing machine. Thanks to Casey for putting up with a HUGE mess on our kitchen table for a month while I worked on it. And thanks to Bev and Angie for helping me quilt, tie, and bind the blasted thing. Without their help, it would still be sitting unfinished along with all the other projects I've begun and never finished! Here are a few pictures of our afternoon quilting and tying as well as the finished product.

Emmett has now been sleeping in his new bed for just under a week and he loves it. We moved Bethany immediately into the crib and I was worried he'd be jealous or upset but he's happy enough about the big boy bed that he doesn't seem to care that "Bethany's sleeping in Emmett's crib". He stays in bed pretty well too. Sometimes we catch him getting out, especially at nap time, but all we have to do is start taking books or toys away and it seems to keep him in bed, at least so far. The idea of him getting up and wandering around the house unsupervised at night terrifies me, so we put up a baby gate in his doorway at night. He hasn't ever tried to climb over the baby gates yet, so we feel fairly confident that it will be enough to keep him safe until he is a little older.
