It's POTTY time!

Two days before Christmas, Emmett decided it was time to use the potty. We had introduced him to the potty a couple of months ago when he started to show interest, but he'd never successfully used it and so we just kept it visible and let him pretend to use it. And then one night I was giving him a bath when he told me he had to go. I asked if he wanted to go in his diaper or the potty. He told me he wanted to go in the potty so we got him out of the tub, he sat down, and he went! And the beautiful boy has been using the potty ever since. Bam. Just like that. Yes, there are accidents and I'm not comfortable enough to let him give up the diaper entirely yet, but most of the time he tells us when he has to go and he makes it. He's even woken up dry from all of his naps this week. We're so proud of our big boy! Honestly, sometimes I wonder if there is ever going to be anything difficult associated with raising this sweet little boy.

Our first attempts back in October were useless. Emmett loved to sit on his special "Cars" potty, watch TV, and drink juice, but then would stand up and wait for me to put his diaper back on him before he would go. After two days of trying, we decided the time just wasn't right and although we left it out for him to see, we only let him pretend to use it since I felt it was too much of a hassle and too frustrating to devote too much time to it.

And finally-- SUCCESS!! Emmett just loves getting "potty candy" (usually chocolate chips) and doing the "potty dance" each time he goes. If you can hear him in this video, he's singing, "Pee-pee in the potty!" as he dances.
