A few photos

It is really much too late for normal people to be awake, but I've got to tell you that it's awfully hard to sleep at night when that's what I also do on and off all day! Being stuck in bed for going on two weeks gets a little tedious after a while. It doesn't help anything that we're having our ultra sound tomorrow to find out if the next baby will be a boy or a girl and I am SO excited!

To help pass the time until I can sleep, I thought I'd post a few photos of our Emmett boy.

One thing Emmett loves to do is torture our cat, Darwin. The poor animal is so patient that he has put up with Emmett pulling his tail, stepping on him, jumping on him, biting him, laying on top of him, etc. for months now without fighting back. Finally though, Darwin decided to teach Emmett a lesson. I didn't feel angry with Darwin at all, in fact, I can't believe he hasn't done something about all the abuse much earlier than this. We're grateful Emmett still has his eye, but although he was a bit shocked by the scratch he received, he still continues to chase and torment the animal. Eventually he'll figure it out... I hope!

Emmett's biggest obsession right now is "THE LIGHT!" He talks about "the light" constantly and each time we go somewhere new he is quick to point out where all the lights are and beg to play with the light switches. He talks about the lights so much and plays with them so much that we are beginning to get a little tired of these redundant conversations. Emmett carries a little black stool around the apartment with him and puts it underneath each light switch in the house. He then climbs up and turns off the light. He'll say, "Where's the light?" and if you don't repeat the question he will wait until you do. Next, he'll either hold up his little hands under his chin and say, "I don know" or he'll skip straight to his favorite part and turn the light back on and shout, "There's the light!" Occasionally he'll turn to me, nod his head and squint his eyes and say, "I turn the light." before the room goes black again and the game starts anew.

Emmett loves his books. Every day we spend a good deal of time reading to him. He's big enough now that he is constantly going to the book shelf, pulling out new books that look interesting, and bringing them to us. He loves to point at the pictures and label them by asking, "Is that a ______ (bird, car, cat, shoe, etc)" We always give him a book to read in bed at nap time and in the evening. Sometimes we've noticed that a few of the books that go into his crib with him come out with corners chewed off the pages... but I guess that's what board books are for, right?
