Are you enjoying sitting in that chair?

So the day after the elections my kids walked into class before first period moaning and groaning about the end of the world. "Obama's not a patriot!" "He's going to get our country bombed!" "Obama is a terrorist!" and my personal favorite: "Obama's going to make us go to school on Saturdays!"

Well I have only one student in my entire first period who was an Obama supporter. He also happens to be one of the brightest members of my class and the one who lacks the most social skills. However, as the kids were all moaning in my classroom before school yesterday morning, this student boldly stood up and said, "I'm glad Obama won, because I think he's the best candidate. I think life is going to go on just like it always has." The kids around him all moaned and screamed some more about the end of the world. One of the complainers was sitting in a special 'comfy' chair in the back corner of my classroom.

My democrat approached him out of frustration. "Are you enjoying sitting in that chair?" He made sure his voice carried throughout the whole room.

"Yes."

"Well now you're enjoying sitting in that chair while Obama is president."

Point proven. Everyone looked at each other, confused, and the topic changed. No one whined for the rest of the period, and I nearly died trying not to laugh out loud.

Isn't that funny! It is so true though. Even though my views are different than President elect, my duty now is to support and hope that he can deliver on the bells and whistles. I may not like it very much, but I am not liking it very much sitting on my couch!
