I'm ENGAGED!!

So this week has been one of the longest weeks EVER! Casey and I made our final decision about a ring last Saturday, and then I waited. I waited... and I waited. Seven days have never passed so slowly! And then finally last night it happened- I have a ring on my left finger, and it says that I belong (or will belong) to the most wonderful boy on earth.

This is how it happened:

First of all, lets just say right now that Casey Sledge is extremely sneaky. He got Mom and Dad's phone number off my cell phone when I wasn't expecting it. On Wednesday he bought the ring and on Thursday he picked it up. All the while, he acted as though he wasn't even thinking about it and I was worrying about how in the world I was ever going to impress on his mind the fact that we really really needed a ring in order to be "officially" engaged. We had our temple time and date (June 14th at 10:45am), and we'd made plans for the open houses that we're going to have. Everything seemed to be falling into place- except the RING! It was torture! And whenever I asked him about it, he would say that he was making me wait, "because I love you". How dare he present me with an argument that is impossible to refute?!

On Sunday we went to church, and after my meeting I was so exhausted that I went home and took a nap from about 1:30pm until 5pm. Of couse, as I was snoozing, Casey was actually calling Dad. When I woke up, I called Casey and he came over so we could make pizza together (see the pictures in the previous post for the results of our amazing cooking skills). When Casey came in, he was raving about what a beautiful day it was, so I suggested that we go for a walk by the Provo River Trail after we eat our pizza. I didn't think that he was going to propose, because it was my suggestion that we go for the walk and not his. Little did I know, he was probably trying to get me to suggest the walk all along. Not only that, but he had the ring in his pocket the entire time that we were making pizza!

We finally finished our pizza and then we walked to Casey's place and took his car up to Provo canyon. While we were in the car, I noticed that his right pocket had a very large, square shaped bulge in it. I thought that maybe it could be the ring, but I tried to convince myself that it wasn't so that I wouldn't get my hopes up and then feel disappointed (I always become particularly grouchy when I'm disappointed about anything important). But as we were walking, we sat down on a bench together. He told me how much he loved me and got down on one knee. And then he asked me if I would marry him.

I said "yes".

My ring is 14K white gold with a 1/5 carat diamond center stone. We got a "half bezel" setting so that the diamond would be securely fixed to my ring and also so that I wouldn't have to worry about scratching myself, my husband, or any future children we may have. (I've had way too many friends who stop wearing their wedding rings because it scratches others or gets caught on stuff. I never want to take mine off.) There are five very small diamonds that go down each side. It's very dainty and petite, which is well suited to my long bony fingers. I can hardly stop looking at it!

When we came home, the first thing we did was go visit Krista and Josh to tell them the good news and show off my "precious" (as Casey calls it in his best Gollum voice). Then we went and showed my roommates, Sylvia and Mackenzie, who squealed and hugged us, and then hugged each other a lot. It was pretty fun to see their reaction. We paid a visit to a couple of other friends in the ward, and then we went back to my apartment and called Mom and Dad.

Today, I've been holding out my hand for the whole world to see the perfectly tasteful, most beautiful piece of jewelry I have ever seen, let alone actually owned. I feel like I am the luckiest girl that has ever lived. Period. And I think it's time to change the title of my blog...

Congratulations Lisa! that is great news! My advice... don't EVER take the ring off. At least not for a year until you are used to knowing it is there and when it is missing. As one who lost her ring 2 weeks before the wedding and dreams of someday getting another... DON'T EVEN THINK of taking it off. It is not worth it! Congrats! Can't wait to meet him.

So I forgot to mention some very important information in my post- but for all who are wondering, the date is June 14th in the Bountiful temple. We'll be having an open house later that night for all of you in Provo who would like to come. :)

Congrats! The ring is beautiful, and reminds me of you, Lisa. (Casey, I haven't met you, but maybe when I know you, it will remind me of you, too.) I remember when I had to stop wearing my ring the last month of pregnancy . . . I was so sad. Enjoy your "precious." It's gorgeous. Good luck with all the wedding plans!

That squishing sound you hear marks the death of many a young man's dream. The last of the Gasser girls is officially off the market . . .

Welcome to the family, Casey!
